New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - The San Francisco 49ers have reportedly filed tampering charges against the New York Jets relating to holdout rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree. The New York Daily News did not detail the specific charges in its story on Monday, but indicated that the Niners may believe that the Jets could have contacted the agent for Crabtree, who was the 10th overall pick of the 2009 draft. It would not be the first time the Jets have been accused of tampering. In 2006, the New England Patriots claimed the Jets tampered with wide receiver Deion Branch. The league's investigation cleared the Jets of any wrongdoing. The Jets have been interested in a top receiver, and earlier this summer it was speculated that unhappy Broncos wideout Brandon Marshall was at the top of their wish list. Marshall wanted to be traded after he could not obtain a new contract from the Broncos, who had reportedly considered filing tampering charges against the Jets in that case. Crabtree, meanwhile, has reportedly threatened to sit out this season. If the 49ers don't sign him by November 19, they would not be permitted to trade his rights until the beginning of the 2010 trading period, which starts March 5. If he is not signed or traded at that point, Crabtree would then go back into next year's draft.
