Boise, ID (My Sportsbook) - Fran Quinn birdied his final hole on Sunday to overtake third-round leader Blake Adams and earn the victory at the Boise Open.
Quinn shot a two-under 69 and finished the championship at 14-under 270, which was good for a one-shot win over Adams, who had led the tournament after each of the first three rounds.
Ewan Porter fired a six-under 65 and moved from a tie for 42nd at the start of the final round to a share of third place. Porter came in at 11-under 273 and shared third with B.J. Staten, who carded a three-under 68 on Sunday.
On Sunday, heavy wind and unseasonably cooler temperatures greeted the players and scores reflected the weather change.
Quinn began the final round two strokes behind Adams and promptly bogeyed the first hole. He atoned for the error with back-to-back birdies from the second, but he made up no ground on Adams.
The overnight leader two-putted for birdie at the par-five second hole, but cruised after the birdie. Adams parred his next seven holes, but a poor tee shot at 10 left him with a bogey and he was only one ahead.
Roger Tambellini joined Adams atop the leaderboard thanks to two-under golf through his first 11. Tambellini drove into someone's backyard at 12 and walked off with double-bogey. That started an awful run for Tambellini and knocked him out of contention.
Adams bogeyed the 11th hole to fall into a tie for first with Quinn, who parred every hole after his birdie at three. Adams answered for his mistake at 11 with a birdie at 12 and Quinn bogeyed the same hole to give Adams a two- stroke cushion.
He needed both of those strokes. Adams bogeyed Nos. 14 and 15 and fell back into a tie for first. Both Adams and Quinn birdied the par-five 16th and the pair was knotted at 13-under with two to play.
Quinn was able to make birdie at the last and it was good enough to earn his third victory on the Nationwide Tour. His previous wins were in 1999 and 2000, respectively.
Adams' bid for a first Nationwide Tour fell a stroke short. He shot a one-over 72 on Sunday.
Tambellini finished with a one-over 72 and shared fifth place with Skip Kendall (69), Troy Kelly (69) and Bradley Iles (70) at 10-under-par 274.
Steven Bowditch (70), Brian Smock (71), Tom Gillis (71), Andrew Buckle (72) and Craig Bowden (72) tied for ninth place at minus-nine.
