Boise, ID (My Sportsbook) - Blake Adams fired a six-under 65 to extend his lead to four shots Friday after two rounds of the Boise Open.
Adams moved to 14-under 128 on the Hillcrest course to tie the 36-hole tournament scoring record shared by Kevin Stadler and Jim McGovern.
Leif Olson (63) and Josh Teater (65) share a distant second place at 10-under 132, while Jonas Blixt (64), Fran Quinn (65) and Daniel Summerhays (66) are another shot further back at 133.
The long-hitting Adams, chasing his first Nationwide Tour win, hasn't made a bogey since the first hole of the tournament -- Thursday's sloppy outing at No. 1 when he hit a tree branch and a bunker and lucked out by only dropping a single stroke.
The 34-year-old collected six birdies on Friday -- bringing his total to 15 for two rounds -- on the way to matching the 36-hole scoring record.
He didn't know till his round was over how far in front he was.
"I didn't look at [the leaderboard] all day. I don't ever look," said Adams. "It's a lot better than being down by eight. It really doesn't matter. We're only halfway home."
Mixing long drives with pin-seeking approach shots, Adams made five of his six birdies Friday on putts from inside eight feet. He made an eight-footer at the 18th for his final birdie.
"I don't think you can overpower this golf course. I'm just driving it well and I'm making putts," he said. "It's golf. If you think you've got it whipped, it'll whip you."
Adams, who sits No. 4 on the money list, is in prime position to earn his PGA Tour card for next season (the top 25 on the year-end money list receive promotions).
But he's still seeking that breakthrough victory at the tail end of a season in which he's posted seven top-10 finishes, including a runner-up at the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic.
"I've put myself in a lot of good spots this year and I feel like I've played just as good on Sunday as I have on Thursday or Friday," Adams said. "For whatever reason, it hasn't been my time. In all honesty, on Sundays I've had a little too far to climb."
Not this time.
