Barcelona, Spain (My Sportsbook) - Barcelona's Xavi said Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Inter Milan in the Champions League was the "same story" and he's looking forward to a more "open" match in La Liga on Saturday against Atletico Madrid.
Xavi and Barca are used to opponents sitting eight, nine or even 10 men behind the ball but weren't expecting it in Milan earlier this week. Barca controlled possession, but couldn't solve the defensive tactics.
Xavi said it "says a lot about Barca that we closed down one of the favorites on their own ground," but he's excited for a rare chance at a more open match. Barca and Atletico usually play high-scoring matches, and Xavi hopes for more of the same.
"Historically, they are always attractive matches with plenty of goals," Xavi said. "I imagine it will be a more open match.
"It'll be nice."
Xavi thinks Barca was "superior at every moment" against Inter Milan, but just couldn't convert the few chances it managed.
With Argentine ace Lionel Messi inked Friday to a new contract - which has a $368 million buyout clause - Barcelona will feature one of the most appealing styles in the world for years to come.
Barca won La Liga and the Champions League last season, and faces a challenge from rebuilt Real Madrid this season in both competitions.
Barcelona opened La Liga with a 3-0 win over Sporting Gijon, and added a 2-0 win over Getafe in the second week. Real, Valencia and Athletic Bilbao are the other untied, unbeaten teams through two weeks.
Barca will try to continue its start at the Camp Nou against Atletico, which is still searching for its first win in La Liga this season.
Real, which will be without Xabi Alonso due to an Achilles injury, hosts Xerez on Sunday.
Also Saturday, Deportivo hosts Espanyol, Mallorca hosts Tenerife, Malaga hosts Racing and Osasuna hosts Sevilla.
Also Sunday, Athletic Bilbao hosts Villarreal, Real Zaragoza hosts Valladolid, Almeria hosts Getafe and Valencia hosts Sporting Gijon.
