Glasgow, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - George Burley will remain as Scotland's manager even after failing to guide his team to next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa. Last week's 1-0 home defeat to Netherlands finally ended Scotland's hopes of qualification, but chief executive Gordon Smith is happy to keep faith with the former Hearts, Ipswich and Southampton boss. Smith said: "It was always our intention to sit down with George at the end of the World Cup campaign to look back at the events of the past 12 months - and also to look ahead to the upcoming Euro qualifying campaign. "You will not meet a more passionate, committed Scot than George. He is a man who cares deeply for his country and wants to take us back to the stage where we regularly qualify for major championships. "We all acknowledge that there have been disappointments over the past year and that we have not met our objective to qualify for the World Cup. "However, what is also clear is that George and his players have shown that they are moving in the right direction. "George has been rebuilding his squad and brought through many young players who he feels will bring us success in the years to come. "That is why we have today given our full backing to George as Scotland's national coach." (Courtesy of sportbox.tv)
