Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Philadelphia Eagles placed offensive lineman Shawn Andrews on injured reserve with a recurring back injury, the team announced on Tuesday. "It's disappointing to lose any player for the entire season, but we have full confidence in the other lineman we have on this roster to help this team succeed," Eagles head coach Andy Reid said. "We wish Shawn all the best as he recovers and rehabilitates from this injury." The two-time Pro Bowl selection missed all four preseason games this year and the Eagles' 38-10 win at Carolina in the regular-season opener due to the injury. He was given medical clearance from back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins late in camp, but the lineman was unable to overcome the pain in his back. Andrews, the 16th overall pick in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft, missed the entire 2008 training camp while battling depression, but did play in the season opener a year ago. He suffered a herniated disc in the second game of the year and did not return to the field the rest of the season. With Andrews going on IR, the Eagles can now fit newly signed quarterback Jeff Garcia on the 53-man roster. The veteran signal-caller agreed to terms on Monday when starting QB Donovan McNabb suffered a fractured rib in the opener at Carolina.
