Lemont, IL (My Sportsbook) - Tiger Woods couldn't let this one slip away.

The last time he had a 54-hole lead on the PGA Tour, he suffered a rare loss at the PGA Championship to Y.E. Yang. On Sunday, Woods held a seven-stroke lead and did not let this one go to anyone else.

Woods posted a three-under 68 Sunday, but it was enough to cruise to an easy victory at the BMW Championship. He finished at 19-under 265 and back in the distance, Jim Furyk and Marc Leishman finished second, a mere eight strokes behind.

"I am pleased," said Woods, who pocketed $1,350,000 for his the victory. "I hit the ball well this week, made a few putts. Overall, this entire week I was very consistent and I ended up on top."

Woods' course-record 62 on Saturday robbed the tournament of any drama come Sunday as to who was going to win the championship.

The drama came in the form of the jockeying for placement in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Woods' victory returned him to the top spot in the points race with just the Tour Championship to go. He heads to East Lake in the best spot to win the FedEx Cup, but several other players moved around the points table.

Furyk's second-place finish bumped him into the top five, which is an important barrier. Anyone in the top five in the standings, which is Woods, Steve Stricker, Furyk, Zach Johnson and Heath Slocum, can win the FedEx Cup with a win at the Tour Championship.

The top 30 head to Atlanta in two weeks and John Senden earned the final spot, but that was thanks to Brandt Snedeker's late collapse.

Senden appeared out of the running for a place in the Tour Championship field after a double-bogey at the 17th hole. Snedeker, who played in the last group with Woods and Leishman, needed bogey or better at the last to punch his ticket to East Lake.

Snedeker drove into the rough at the last and elected to lay up short of the water. He knocked his third to 16 feet and appeared to be in great shape, needing only to two-putt.

He ran his par putt four feet past the stick and the putt coming back lipped out of the hole. Snedeker was now out of the Tour Championship, but not out trouble.

He wasted no time at all with his double-bogey putt and that lipped out as well. In the end, Snedeker four-putted from 16 feet for a triple-bogey and lost his chance at the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup.

Snedeker's troubles were Senden's blessings. He got that 30th spot by one single point over Ian Poulter.

Despite all of the movement and excitement late Sunday in the FedEx Cup, the story was Woods' dominance.

It was his fifth title at this championship, his sixth trophy of 2009 and his 71st on the PGA Tour. Woods is now only two behind Jack Nicklaus on the all-time wins list.

The eight-shot victory wasn't his largest margin of victory, but it did give him another win in a very long stretch of golf for the world's best.

Woods teed it up in six tournaments in the last seven weeks and book ended them with victories. He won the Buick Open in mid August, then punctuated one of his longest runs of tournament golf with another title at Cog Hill.

"I'm going home and relaxing for a few days," joked Woods. "I'm going to get away from the game for a little bit and then at the end of the week start getting after it again."

Before his vacation started, Woods had to polish off win No. 71.

He parred his first four holes, then recorded a bogey after an errant drive in the right rough at five. Two holes later, Woods ran home a 17-foot birdie putt and two holes after that, birdied the par-five ninth.

Woods was comfortably ahead and parred his next five holes. At the par-five 15th, Woods hit his second to five feet and holed the putt for an eagle and an eight-shot lead.

He parred his last three and pushed his record to 47-4 with the third-round lead on the PGA Tour.

"You keep putting yourself there time and time again, you're going to get your share of 'W's," said Woods.

Furyk shot a nice round of five-under 66, but was practical about his chances.

"I felt like we had a tournament within the tournament, kind of like a tournament for second place," said Furyk. "Tiger ran away. I was trying to grind it out."

Leishman and Woods were the only players to post four rounds in the 60s. Leishman shot a two-under 69 on Sunday and vaulted up 51 places in the FedEx Cup from the start of the week.

Sean O'Hair fired a five-under 66 and took fourth at minus-10, which was two shots better than Johnson, who had a three-under 68 on Sunday.

Sergio Garcia (71) and Padraig Harrington (73) shared sixth at six-under 278, but Garcia's run in the Playoffs is over.

Last year's winner Camilo Villegas (66) and Kevin Na (70) tied for eighth at minus-five. Villegas is done, but Na is headed to East Lake.

Phil Mickelson shot a five-over 76 on Sunday and tied for 30th at plus-two.
