Glasgow, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - Celtic missed out on a chance to take over the top spot in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday as the Hoops were held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee United at Celtic Park.
David Goodwillie stunned the home supporters when he put United ahead after six minutes, but Scott McDonald pulled the hosts back level in the 17th minute.
United's Scott Robertson picked up a second yellow card with three minutes to play, but it wasn't enough to allow Celtic to claim all three points, and they remain in second place on goal difference, level with leaders Rangers on 10 points.
Prince Buaben set up the opening goal after winning the ball on the right wing and crossing it to the front of goal. Goodwillie was able to gain control and then turn past defender Glenn Loovens before smashing his shot high into the net.
It took 11 minutes for the Hoops to provide an answer, and it came from a Daniel Fox free kick. Fox drove the ball towards the back post and McDonald was able to somehow get his head to it despite the presence of a number of United defenders, sending the ball past goalkeeper Nicky Weaver.
Daniel Swanson came close in the second half for United, but his shot sailed inches wide of the far post, while Georgios Samaras came on as a substitute and had the ball in the net shortly after arriving, but had the goal wiped out for offsides.
After Robertson was sent off, Celtic had one last chance to snatch all three points when Andreas Hinkel's cross appeared to strike the hand of United's Darren Dods inside the box, but the referee's whistle remained silent.
Rangers needed some late heroics from goalkeeper Allan McGregor in order to claim a 0-0 draw with Motherwell as McGregor was called upon to stop a penalty kick from James O'Brien three minutes from time, while St Mirren and St Johnstone traded first-half goals in a 1-1 draw.
