Sandy, Utah (My Sportsbook) - Craig Bowden fired his second consecutive six- under 65 on Friday to move into the lead after the second round of the Utah Championship.
Bowden finished 36 holes at 12-under 130 and is one shot ahead of John Kimbell, who also had a 65 on Friday, at Willow Creek Country Club.
First-round leader Alistair Presnell (69), Steve Wheatcroft (65), Dave Schultz (63), Josh Teater (67) and Garrett Willis (64) are knotted in third place at 10-under 132.
Bowden was in Friday's first group out and maybe it was the early tee time, but he had problems getting going. Bowden parred his first seven holes on Friday, but then went on a great birdie run to vault to the top of the leaderboard.
He birdied the next four holes in a row to get to 10-under par for the championship. He parred the par-five 12th, but birdied the 13th to collect his fifth birdie in a six-hole span.
Bowden, who finished second at this championship 10 years ago, birdied the par-five 17th to grab sole possession of the lead.
"I'm putting the ball real well," said Bowden, a three-time winner on the Nationwide Tour. "I'm seeing my lines, I'm hitting my lines, the ones I'm hitting fairly close I'm making. I've made some putts which you sure have to do to play well, got some good breaks, created some good breaks."
Andrew Buckle (69), Fran Quinn (65), Robert Damron (65) and Jon Mills (67) are tied for eighth at nine-under 133.
There will not be a successful title defense this year. Brendon Todd, last year's winner, posted a one-under 70 on Friday, but missed the cut by four strokes at one-over 143.
