Dortmund, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Bayern Munich debuted its dynamic duo of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery in its last match - a 3-0 win over Bundesliga champion Wolfsburg - but coach Louis van Gaal wouldn't commit to starting the duo Saturday at Borussia Dortmund.
Robben, signed for $35 million from Real Madrid just one day before the Wolves match, started the second half and had two goals off assists from Ribery, who was making his season debut.
Ribery and Robben added a spark to Bayern's attack that has been missing for a few seasons, and helped end the club's worst league start in 43 seasons.
Van Gaal said "anything's possible," meaning Ribery and Robben could start but "there's more of a chance that Robben could start."
Ribery has been limited by various injuries, and with a visit to Maccabi Haifa in Israel on tap in the Champions League group stage opener on Tuesday, Bayern does not want to risk losing the star for the key match.
Van Gaal also has selection concerns with German striker Miroslav Klose out of the lineup, even though he scored twice for Germany in a midweek qualifier.
"I'm still not at 100 percent, even after scoring two goals [for Germany in midweek]. I need fitness to play decent football, and I'm a long way short of that," Klose said after coming on as a second-half substitute for his country in the 4-0 win over Azerbaijan.
Along with not having Klose and the rest of his German stars, Van Gaal had to deal with the loss of Ribery and Robben - among others - this week and worried about having limited time in training.
"It's hard to refocus from your national team to a match in Dortmund in just two days," Van Gaal said.
Van Gaal welcomed Italian striker Luca Toni back to training Thursday, and he admitted "it's looking good" for his return to the field. If Toni doesn't make his season debut Saturday, he could be on the field Tuesday.
Bayern's win over Wolfsburg was its first of the season, and it will be eyeing its first road win at Dortmund. Borussia is also 1-1-2 after four matches, and both clubs will be looking for three big early-season points.
Current leader Hamburg hosts Stuttgart in another of Saturday's battles, but a mid-week injury to Paolo Guerrero may have spoiled the team's strong start. He injured his knee playing for Peru, and is out at least six months. Stuttgart hosts Rangers on Wednesday in its Champions League group opener.
Bayer Leverkusen, which along with Hamburg and Eintracht are still undefeated, visits Wolfsburg on Saturday looking to hand the Wolves their third straight loss and second straight at home - where it was 16-0-1 last season. Wolfsburg also opens the Champions League group stage Tuesday when it hosts CSKA Moscow.
Eintracht visits promoted Freiburg, Monchengladbach visits promoted Nurnberg, Hertha Berlin visits promoted Mainz and Bochum visits Hoffenheim to wrap up Saturday's action.
On Sunday, Werder Bremen hosts Hannover and Koln hosts Schalke.
