Cologne, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Scott Strange shot a four-under 68 and Chris Wood had a three-under 69 to share the second-round lead Friday at the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
They finished two trips around Gut Larchenhof at nine-under 135 for a one-shot lead over Soren Hansen, Ross Fisher and James Kingston.
Hansen, the first-round leader, tripped to a double-bogey at the 18th hole Friday to shoot a 71 and fall out of first place. Fisher and Kingston both had 69s.
Niclas Fasth (67), Graeme Storm (68) and David Drysdale (70) stood another stroke further back at seven-under 137.
Strange, a two-time European Tour winner, collected six birdies and two bogeys for his 68. Chasing his second victory of the season, the 32-year-old Australian missed a chance to hold sole possession of the lead with a late bogey at the 16th hole.
Wood, meanwhile, finished 36 holes on the Cologne course without dropping a single stroke.
He saved that errorless streak with two timely shots -- a chip-in par at No. 8 and a holed bunker shot for birdie at the 14th.
"It was a bit of a battle, but I'll take another 18 holes without a bogey -- and hopefully another 36," said Wood, who is seeking his first tour victory.
The 21-year-old Englishman is still riding the momentum of a third-place tie at the British Open two months ago, the highlight of a season that has seen him make 15 of 19 cuts and post seven top-25s.
"As long as I keep putting myself in position, a win is going to happen," Wood said. "I just hope it's sooner rather than later."
Because there is no cut this week, every player in the 78-man field moved on to the third round.
Henrik Stenson, Paul Lawrie, Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley were among the 20 players who were within five strokes of the co-leaders following the second round.
