Montreal, Quebec (My Sportsbook) - The Montreal Alouettes have filed a formal protest with the Canadian Football League regarding the events in the closing minutes of their 19-12 loss to the BC Lions last Friday. With roughly one minute left in the game, the Als netted a first down on 3rd- and-1, though the play was brought back as BC coach Wally Buono had called timeout before the snap. On the replay of the down, Avon Cobourne scored a touchdown to tie the game, but officials deemed the down to be re-played once again after the official time was not re-set correctly. The Als, on their third try, failed to net a first down and lost by seven points. "Following the touchdown, the play immediately went to review and the officials deemed that the clock had not been properly re-set," CFL COO Michael Copeland said. "The play was ruled to be re-played even though the mistake had nothing to do with anything that transpired on the field. "We are reviewing the events cited by the Alouettes very carefully, speaking with all of the officials involved, including the on-field crew, the supervisor and the replay Official," Copeland continued. "This review was launched over the weekend by our director of officiating and is now being carried on by me and the commissioner"
