New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Deanna Nolan of the Detroit Shock and Vickie Johnson of the San Antonio Silver Stars were named the WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending Sunday, September 6. Nolan won her second consecutive weekly award and fifth such career honor for averaging 20.7 points, tops in the Eastern Conference, while posting 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists. The Shock finished the week 3-0 and moved into third place in the conference standings. The four-time WNBA All-Star became the fourth player this season to garner back-to-back weekly awards and is averaging 16.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists this year. Johnson captured the first Player of the Week award in her 13 years in the league during a week in which the Silver Stars honored her on "Vickie Johnson Night" in a double-overtime win against the Lynx. Johnson hit a jumper with time winding down in the first overtime to help force a second extra session and ended with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. For the week, Johnson averaged 22.0 points on a league-leading 76 percent (19- of-25) shooting with 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals as San Antonio went 2-0. Johnson is one of only four players remaining from the WNBA's inaugural season and previously announced she is retiring at year's end. Other candidates for the award were Connecticut's Anete Jekabsone-Zogota, Indiana's Tamika Catchings, Phoenix's Cappie Pondexter, Sacramento's Rebekkah Brunson and Seattle's Camille Little.
