Philadelphia, PA (My Sportsbook) - The Philadelphia Eagles and tight end Alex Smith agreed on a one-year contract Tuesday. Tight end Tony Curtis was released to make room on the 53-man roster. Smith was released by the Patriots during Saturday's mandatory trimming of rosters to 53 players. New England had traded a fifth-round pick in the offseason to the Buccaneers for Smith, but was let go with Ben Watson and ex- Jet Chris Baker already on the Pats' roster. The fifth-year pro was a third-round selection in the 2005 draft by Tampa Bay and has 129 receptions for 1,252 yards and 11 touchdowns in 58 career games. The 27-year-old Stanford product grabbed 21 passes for 250 yards and three scores in 14 games for the Bucs last season. Curtis played in all 16 regular-season games in 2008 while a member of the Cowboys. He made eight catches for 32 yards but was released in the offseason and signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, who subsequently released the fifth- year pro in early August. Over 36 career games with Dallas, Curtis has 11 receptions for 50 yards and three touchdowns. All three scores came on his only three grabs of the 2007 season. |
