Flushing Meadows, NY (My Sportsbook) - Defending champion Serena Williams dismissed 22nd-seeded Daniela Hantuchova in straight sets on Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. Second-seeded Serena overpowered her Slovakian opponent, winning 10 straight games to close out the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium, 6-2, 6-0. The American superstar belted 27 winners to her opponent's nine and also recorded eight aces in the victory that took 1 hour and four minutes. Serena, who already has two Grand Slam championships this year, having captured titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, is a three-time winner at Flushing Meadows. Next up for Serena will be either seventh seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia or 10th seed Flavia Pennetta of Italy. China's Li Na, the 18th seed, secured her spot in the quarters with a relatively easy 6-2, 6-3 victory over 26th-seeded Italian Francesca Schiavone in 1 hour, 10 minutes at Louis Armstrong Stadium. Li will face either third-seeded Venus Williams or former world No. 1 Kim Clijsters in the quarterfinals.
