Davie, FL (My Sportsbook) - Wide receiver Brandon London and safety Courtney Bryan were among the 11 players released by the
Miami Dolphins on Saturday, as the team reached the NFL-mandated 53-player maximum.
London appeared in 14 games last season, starting one, catching three passes for 30 yards and also contributing on special teams. But the former UMass standout fell victim to an enhanced receiving corps, one that was deeper via the addition of Patrick Turner and Brian Hartline in this past April's draft.
Bryan, who appeared in 19 games as a member of the Dolphins from 2007-08, including seven last year, was caught up in a numbers game in the secondary. The Dolphins used three 2009 draft picks on defensive backs - Vontae Davis, Sean Smith, and Chris Clemons - and the free agent acquisition of Gibril Wilson didn't help Bryan's cause either.
Also released on Saturday were tackle Brandon Frye, linebacker William Kershaw, cornerback Joey Thomas, defensive end Rodrique Wright, offensive lineman Nate Garner, cornerback Will Billingsley, defensive lineman Ryan Baker, offensive guard/center Mark Lewis, linebacker J.D. Folsom, and wide receiver James Robinson.
Of that group, only Frye (seven games) and Thomas (six games) had been on the active roster with Miami last season.
In another move on Saturday, the Dolphins placed outside linebacker Matt Roth on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List. Roth won't be eligible to practice or play for the season's first six weeks.
Miami opens its regular season on Sept. 13, when Tony Sparano and company travel to meet the Atlanta Falcons.
