Ashburn, VA (My Sportsbook) - Redskins head coach Steve Spurrier announced Wednesday that Danny Wuerffel will start at quarterback for Washington Sunday against St. Louis. It is the fourth starting quarterback change for the Redskins this season.
Rookie Patrick Ramsey has been promoted to the No. 2 QB, while Shane Matthews, who started the team's first three contests and most recent three, will be the third quarterback.
Spurrier said Wednesday that Wuerffel will start and get a chance to play the whole game against the Rams. On Monday, he had said that he was considering playing Wuerffel and Ramsey for a half each.
Wuerffel will make his second start of the season, and will try to last longer than the first. On October 6 at Tennessee, he was knocked out of the game after the first series with a shoulder injury.
Ramsey, who relieved Wuerffel against the Titans, struggled as the starter in the next two weeks before Matthews again took over.
Wuerffel has seen the least amount of playing time among the three quarterbacks. In four games, he has completed only 8-of-14 passes for 82 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns for a QB rating of just 34.7 percent.
Ramsey has also appeared in four games, and has completed 51-of-102 passes for 723 yards, with three touchdowns and five interceptions. However, Ramsey was sacked 14 times and has a QB rating of 62.6 percent.
Matthews this season has completed 124-of-237 passes for 1,251 yards, with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. He completed 15-of-35 passes for just 113 yards, with a touchdown and an interception in the Redskins' 19-17 loss to the New York Giants last Sunday.
