San Antonio, TX (My Sportsbook) - Defensive stalwart Bruce Bowen announced his retirement on Thursday after 12 seasons in the NBA. Bowen, 38, was selected to the All-Defensive First Team five times while playing for the Spurs from 2003-08, also winning three championships with San Antonio in his eight-year stint there. "I will no longer play basketball professionally," Bowen said in a press conference. "I'm looking forward to continuously supporting the Spurs, but from more of a distance now." San Antonio traded Bowen to Milwaukee this offseason as part of a three-team deal that saw forward Richard Jefferson land with the Spurs. The Bucks cut the forward shortly thereafter. The Cal State Fullerton product played sparingly in his first five seasons in the league, which included stints in Boston, Philadelphia and two with Miami. He came into his own with the Spurs and averaged over 30 minutes a game in six straight seasons. The 6-foot-7, 200-pound headache for many of his opponents logged 6.1 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
