Shreveport, LA (My Sportsbook) - Former New England Patriots running back John Stephens passed away as a result of a one-vehicle accident on Tuesday night. Stephens, 43, was ejected from his 2004 Chevy truck traveling on Highway 169 after he lost control of the vehicle and hit a patch of trees head-on, according to a statement from the Caddo Parish sheriff's office. The Northwestern product won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 1988 after rushing for a career-high 1,168 yards and four touchdowns with New England. He spent the next four years with the Patriots and played the 1993 season with Kansas City and Green Bay. The 17th overall pick in the 1988 Draft compiled 3,440 rushing yards and 18 TDs on the ground throughout his career.
