Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - The
Kansas City Chiefs cut veteran wide receiver Amani Toomer among five rosters moves, the team announced on Tuesday.
Toomer signed with the Chiefs on August 4 after the Michigan product spent each of the first 13 seasons of his NFL career with the New York Giants.
The 34-year-old had his lowest output since 1998 last season, catching just 48 balls for 580 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games -- 12 starts.
Toomer was a second-round selection in 1996 and amassed 668 catches for 9,497 yards and 54 touchdowns in 190 games. In his final game for New York, he caught two passes for 26 yards in a 23-11 playoff loss to the Eagles.
From 1999-2003, Toomer recorded five straight 1,000-yard seasons, posting career-highs in catches and yards with 82 and 1,343, respectively, in 2002.
Kansas City also released nine-year veteran defensive end Alfonso Boone, who spent the last two seasons with the Chiefs and compiled two sacks and 34 tackles in 30 games, including 19 starts spanning the two years.
Also hitting the unemployment line was rookie tackle Cameron Goldberg.
The club also announced that veteran wide receiver Devard Darling was placed on the season-ending injured reserve list and running back Kolby Smith was put on the physically unable to perform list.
Darling, a six-year pro, is suffering from a knee injury. He finished with 17 catches for 247 yards and a touchdown in 16 games (nine starts) last season.
Smith, a three-year vet, is hampered by an undisclosed injury. The running back, who was slowed by a knee problem in 2008, rushed for 100 yards and a score on 35 carries in only seven games (three starts).
