Houston, TX (My Sportsbook) - Brett Favre was 13-of-18 passing for 142 yards and a touchdown, as the Minnesota Vikings defeated the Houston Texans, 17-10, in the third preseason test for both clubs.

After the game, Favre said he has been hurting since taking a hit to his ribs in last week's preseason game, but said he didn't think the ribs were cracked.

"I really don't believe it is," said Favre. "It doesn't feel great, but I think I'll be fine. I haven't had an X-ray yet, but say it shows it's a crack. There's nothing you can do about it. You can play with it."

Favre also put a vicious hit on an illegal crackback block on Houston's Eugene Wilson in the third quarter. Wilson was hurt on the play. The play occurred when Favre was lined up as a receiver in the Wildcat formation.

"I'm sorry if he's injured, but that was not my intentions," said Favre.

Backups Sage Rosenfels and Tarvaris Jackson saw limited action, with Rosenfels going for 26 yards on 2-of-3 efficiency and Jackson ending 2-for-2 for 22 yards.

Adrian Peterson gained 117 yards and a score on 11 carries for the Vikings. Chester Taylor added 30 yards on seven carries to go with 41 yards and a TD on three catches. Rookie Percy Harvin had 31 yards on three grabs and rushed twice for another six yards.

Matt Schaub went 10-of-14 under center for 108 yards with an interception for the Texans. Steve Slaton gained 27 yards and a TD on 12 carries and had three catches totaling 20 yards. Andre Johnson filled the stat book with 61 yards on three catches in defeat.

Schaub sprained his ankle on a scramble in the second quarter, but returned to the game.

"Well I was on the rollout, and as I went out of bounds, I don't know if I caught a little divot in the ground or if going onto that rubber...whatever it is...turf over there," said Schaub. "I just felt a little something in my ankle and it kind of progressively got a little sore. I was able to stay in there and just came in at the half and figured it was best to just get some treatment on it and proceed that way."

The Vikings took an early 7-0 lead as Peterson took the first play of the game 75 yards to pay dirt.

Ryan Longwell added a 36-yard field goal with about 10 1/2 minutes left in the second quarter to make it 10-0.

Slaton had a four-yard touchdown run late in the second stanza to cap an 11- play, 71-yard drive that closed it to 10-7.

Favre hooked up with Taylor for a 28-yard touchdown pass on Minnesota's next touch, which made it 17-7. However, Kris Brown nailed a 37-yarder as the half expired to make it a 10-point game heading to the intermission.

Game Notes

The Vikings and Texans met in a preseason contest for the first time Monday. However, the clubs met for a regular season contest last Nov. 2nd at the Metrodome, with Minnesota coming up a 28-21 winner.
