Barcelona, Spain (My Sportsbook) - Barcelona opened defense of its La Liga title on Monday with a relatively comfortable 3-0 win over Sporting Gijon at the Nou Camp. All three of Barca's goals were scored on headers, with Bojan Krkic and Seydou Keita putting the defending champions up 2-0 at halftime before Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored with seven minutes to play in his Barca debut. Sporting created the first chance of the game after 11 minutes when Diego Castro had a good look at goal from 14 yards but shot over the net, while Barca put away its first real opportunity seven minutes later. Xavi's corner kick was met at the near post by Keita and flicked on to the back post for an open Bojan, who easily headed it home from a few yards out. Bojan then rolled a shot past the far post from inside the area shortly before the break, but it took less than one minute for the second goal to arrive. Daniel Alves threw a cross into the area from the right and Keita was able to rise up in a crowd and redirect it past the keeper with his head, giving the hosts a two-goal lead at halftime. The second half saw a slower pace and less chances from the hosts, while Sporting tried to pull a goal back in the 63rd minute when Mate Bilic had his shot saved at the near post by Victor Valdes before Arnolin Gregory headed the ensuing corner kick just wide. Keita could have added to his goal total, but he nodded the ball off the post, while Ibrahimovic sealed the win in the 83rd minute with a diving header after a deflected cross from Alves.
