Kansas City, MO (My Sportsbook) - Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Chan Gailey has been relieved of his duties. New Chiefs head coach Todd Haley will likely take over the play-calling chores. He was the offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals before assuming his new position. Gailey was entering his second season with the Chiefs, who ranked 24th in the NFL last year in total offense. "There's never great timing for situations like this," said Gailey in a statement released by the Chiefs. "However, Todd has to do what's best for the team and for the future of the Chiefs. I respect that. It didn't work out for us, but I certainly think that he has a very fine offensive mind and I feel very fortunate to have worked for the Chiefs these past two years." Prior to joining the Chiefs, Gailey had spent six seasons as head coach at Georgia Tech. He compiled a record of 44-33 with the Yellow Jackets, taking the program to six consecutive bowl games. The 35-year coaching veteran was also an NFL offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins under then head coach Dave Wannstedt in 2000 and 2001, and had also been the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for the 1998 and 1999 seasons. He guided Dallas to a mark of 18-14, including an NFC East title and playoff appearance in his first campaign. Gailey also served in a variety of roles with the Denver Broncos between 1985-90, and also saw time as wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator under Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh from 1994-97.
