Snoqualmie, WA (My Sportsbook) - Loren Roberts and Mark McNulty both fired seven-under 65s Saturday to move into a share of the lead after 36 holes of the Boeing Classic.
Roberts, who won his second Senior British Open title earlier this year, and McNulty completed two rounds at 11-under-par 133, one stroke off the tournament's 36-hole scoring record.
First-round leader Mark O'Meara posted a three-under 69 and slipped into a share of third with Bernhard Langer (66) at minus-nine. Dan Forsman (67) and Craig Stadler (66) are one stroke back at eight-under-par 136.
Roberts, who was in the final group Saturday, was chasing McNulty the whole round.
McNulty, who won for the seventh time on the Champions Tour earlier this season, carded four birdies on the front nine at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge to make the turn at minus-eight. After a birdie on the 10th, McNulty stumbled to a bogey on No. 12.
Roberts, a 10-time winner on the Champions Tour, parred his first five holes, then drained three straight birdie tries from the sixth as he turned in minus- seven.
McNulty soared into the lead in the middle of the back nine as he made three straight birdies from the 14th. That got him to 11-under and he parred his final two holes.
"It always looks easy sometimes, but you've just got to work hard at it," McNulty stated. "I've been playing nicely of late. I did a lot of work earlier this week and it has helped. Today was a grind though."
Despite his bogey on the 12th Saturday, McNulty is minus-nine on the back nine through two rounds.
"Goodness knows. I don't know. It is just one of those weeks," McNulty said of his solid play on the back nine. "I didn't envision myself being able to do that on this golf course. When you're playing well, things happen."
Roberts was able to chase him down as he birdied the same three holes -- 14, 15 and 16 -- to get within one of the lead. He joined McNulty atop the leaderboard with a birdie at the last.
John Cook, who finished second at the Tradition last week, carded his second straight three-under 69 and is alone in seventh at six-under-par 138. Nick Price (70) and John Jacobs (71) are one stroke back at minus-five.
Defending champion Tom Kite is nine strokes back at minus-two after tripping to a one-over 73 in the second round.
