New Haven, CT (My Sportsbook) - American Sam Querrey and Fernando Verdasco advanced to tonight's championship match at the $750,000 Pilot Pen Tennis event, a final U.S. Open tune-up. Rain forced the postponement of the men's semifinals Friday, and both matches were played indoors at the Cullman-Heyman Courts. The sixth-seeded Querrey was on first and beat Argentine Jose Acasuso, 6-3, 6-4. In the second semifinal, second-seeded Spaniard Verdasco upended seventh- seeded Russian Igor Andreev, 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5). The 6-foot-6 Querrey titled in Los Angeles earlier this month and has appeared in four finals already this season. The 21-year-old Californian captured the US Open Series points title leading into the upcoming U.S. Open, which will get underway Monday in New York. Querrey is 20-5 since July. This will be the first meeting between Querrey and Verdasco. Both players have two career championships. Tonight's winner will collect $94,000.
