Foxborough, MA (My Sportsbook) - The New England Revolution will aim to continue their climb up Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference table when they host the San Jose Earthquakes at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening.
The Revs (8-6-6) are currently on a 4-1-1 stretch and sit in their in the table, but have at least two games in hand on the teams they are chasing - Columbus and Chicago.
A 3-1 win vs. Real Salt Lake last week in which striker Kheli Dube scored a hat trick has the team currently riding a wave of confidence.
"What can you say. It'd be a lot easier to tell you what he did wrong than what he did right," New England coach Steve Nicol said about Dube after the win last weekend. "He's playing against two giants at the back and he's won headers. He's scored three goals. He's run in behind with some pace. He's held it up pretty well. Everything you want, he absolutely put it on the field."
But Dube was quick to deflect some of the credit to his teammates after the player-of-the-week performance.
"It's not like I did all the work," he said. "It starts with 11 players on the team, and it's all about teamwork. This has been a great weekend for us, getting two wins, and I think we played really well, which is great."
Dube was referring to a 1-0 win at Seattle three days prior to the win over RSL.
After some early season injury concerns derailed New England, it seems to be getting healthy just in time for the stretch run.
"We were treading water for a little bit, trying to get everybody back healthy," Revolution goalkeeper Matt Reis said. "We're starting to get [our full] complement of players. It's going to be a good problem for [Nicol] to have once everybody is fit to pick the best team."
New England still has some injury concerns, however, with defenders Chris Albright and Kevin Alston, and forward Taylor Twellman out with various injuries. Also, forward Edgaras Jankauskas is doubtful, Dube and midfielder Jeff Larentowicz are questionable, and defender Jay Heaps and forward Kenny Mansally are probable, all with knocks.
San Jose (5-11-5) is currently in last in the Western Conference table, but is i good form as of late, winning two of its last three, including a 1-0 victory over Kansas City last weekend.
"I thought we showed real good heart, we tried hard," Earthquakes coach Frank Yallop. "In this league, you [have to] put every ounce of effort into every play. I thought we did that. We wanted to win the game, and it showed."
But Yallop knows that with just nine games to go, the 'Quakes have to start racking up wins in order to have a chance to make the playoffs.
"What we're obviously trying to do is build some good momentum," Yallop said. "Hopefully we can get a good result [vs. New England]. It's going to be tough, but the group must be confident now."
San Jose will be without Jason Hernandez because of suspension, and could be without forward Cornell Glen and defender Aaron Pitchkolan, while midfielder Bobby Convey is probable, all with injuries.
