New York, NY (My Sportsbook) - Reigning five-time champion Roger Federer and women's top-ranked star Dinara Safina have been installed as the top seeds for the U.S. Open, which will commence Monday in New York. The United States Tennis Association based the seedings on the current world rankings. Federer is followed by Andy Murray, former No. 1 Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Wimbledon runner-up and 2003 U.S. Open champion Andy Roddick. Federer beat Murray in last year's finale in Flushing Meadows. Djokovic was the runner-up to Federer in the Big Apple in 2007, while Roddick was the runner-up to Federer in 2006. The amazing Federer is the men's all-time leader with 15 major titles, including three of the last four Grand Slams. He has captured the French Open and Wimbledon already this season. The Aussie Open and French Open runner-up Safina is followed by reigning U.S. Open champ Serena Williams, Wimbledon runner-up Venus Williams, 2004 U.S. Open finalist and reigning Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva and last year's U.S. Open runner-up to Serena, Jelena Jankovic. The 11-time major champion Serena is a three-time U.S. Open winner, while her seven-time Grand Slam champion big sister is a two-time titlist in New York. Serena has won three of the last four majors on the ladies' tour. Former U.S. Open champ Maria Sharapova is seeded 29th among the women. The draws will be revealed on Thursday.
