Columbia, SC (My Sportsbook) - South Carolina head football coach Steve Spurrier has suspended defensive end Clifton Geathers after the junior was arrested early Sunday morning. According to The State newspaper, Geathers is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after an altercation at a night club. "We are disappointed in the actions of Cliton Geathers the other night," said Spurrier in a statement released by the school. "He has been suspended indefinitely from the team until all the facts come in." The paper cited Columbia police as saying the 6-foot-8 Geathers, who is 21 years old, was uncooperative and had to be detained by two officers. Geathers, the younger brother of current Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Robert Geathers Jr. and the nephew of former NFL Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jumpy Geathers, had 29 tackles in 13 games last season and was projected to start for the Gamecocks this season.
