Greensboro, NC (My Sportsbook) - Chez Reavie, 2007 winner Brandt Snedeker and Ryan Moore each posted rounds of six-under 64 on Thursday to share the lead during the first round of the Wyndham Championship.
The first round was called for darkness, but it was a lengthy weather delay that plagued Thursday's action.
There was a four-hour stoppage due to heavy storms near Sedgefield Country Club and the remaining players will return at 7:45 a.m. (et) Friday morning to complete the first round.
This is an important event for players to make the cut. It represents the last PGA Tour event for players to get FedEx Cup points. The top 125 on that list comprise the field next week for the first FedEx Cup Playoffs event, The Barclays.
Of the three first-round co-leaders, Reavie needs a big week the most. He went into this week 177th on the FedEx Cup list.
He also had the most interesting trip to the top of the leaderboard. Reavie began on the 10th tee Thursday and on his last green heard thunder in the distance.
He lagged his 12-foot birdie putt to tap-in range and waited as his playing partners completed the hole. Reavie walked up to kick in his par putt, but the horn sounded to stop play.
He had about a foot for his 64, but waited four hours to convert the putt.
"It was actually funny. When I walked to the putting green my caddy had three balls lined up," said Reavie, who mixed seven birdies, including four in a row from the fourth, and a bogey on Thursday. "I picked them up."
Reavie came out and tapped in for his share of first.
Snedeker only had a few holes left when play was halted. Like Reavie, he played the back nine first on Thursday and tallied five birdies and a bogey over his first nine.
On his second side, Snedeker picked up two birdies, including one at the par- three seventh. He left himself with seven feet for par at his closing hole and made it to stay atop the leaderboard.
"I was excited coming in this week," said Snedeker, who won in 2007 at Forest Oaks Country Club. "I was swinging good at it. I knew I was playing good even though I missed the cut at the PGA. Getting back on bent grass greens got my putts going again. I putted fantastic. I hope I can keep that going for the rest of the week."
Moore was four-under when play was stopped. He missed a 20-foot eagle putt on the 15th green, then went in and sat out the delay.
When he came back out, Moore rolled in his four-foot birdie putt at 15. He added another birdie at the par-four 17th to grab his share of first place.
"Today was just one of those really solid days," said Moore, who is still winless on tour despite a successful amateur career. "Didn't do anything too crazy, too special. Just really put the ball in play well, which is what you have to do out here."
Justin Rose, Kevin Streelman and Colt Knost are tied for fourth place at five- under 65. Chris Riley is five-under par and will have to sleep on a four-foot par putt on his 15th hole.
United States Presidents Cup captain Fred Couples, Ken Duke, Johnson Wagner, Jonathan Byrd, Scott McCarron, Jeff Maggert, Tim Petrovic and John Daly, who withdrew from the PGA Championship last week, are knotted in eighth at four- under 66.
Steve Elkington and Bill Haas are four-under and didn't complete round one.
Sergio Garcia, who played this week to improve his disappointing 115th place on the FedEx Cup points list, is three-under through 12 holes in the first round.
Defending champion Carl Pettersson managed an even-par 70 on Thursday.
