Paris, France (My Sportsbook) - Romain Grosjean has been selected by Renault to replace Nelson Piquet as the team's second driver for the remainder of the Formula One season.
Piquet parted company with the squad earlier this month after a disagreement with management.
Grosjean's first race for Renault will come at this weekend's European Grand Prix.
"I'm very excited and I want to thank the team for giving me this chance," said Grosjean. "My first race will be a learning experience. It's difficult to set myself an objective, so my first priority will be to get comfortable with the car, build my confidence over the weekend and do the best job I can for the team."
Grosjean has been a part of the Renault team since 2006 and this year has attended F1 races as the third driver. He has also been racing in the GP2 series, posting a pair of victories.
"Renault has supported me since 2006 and it was only withtheir help that I could afford to continue racing," Grosjean added. "There is maybe a bit more attention because people have been waiting for a French driver in a Renault, but I will do my best to show that they were right to believe in me."
The 23-year-old Grosjean was the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series champion and in 2008 won the GP2 Asia Series.
"We are happy to give Romain the chance to start racing with the team," said Renault managing director Flavio Briatore. "He is an impressive young talent and we expect him to show his skills driving alongside Fernando [Alonso] as we take an aggressive approach to the second half of the season."
Piquet, who joined Renault in 2008, struggled this season with no points in the world championship standings. He said earlier this month that he was not given sufficient testing time compared to Alonso, and also noted that he was threatened on numerous occasions with replacement if he did not achieve good results.
