Springfield, MO (My Sportsbook) - Chad Collins fired his second straight eight-under 64 Friday to take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Price Cutter Charity Championship.
Collins completed 36 holes at 16-under-par 128, which matched the tournament's 36-hole scoring record. Joe Ogilvie first posted 128 in 2003 and was matched by Troy Matteson in 2005 and Boo Weekley in 2006.
Scott Gardiner also fired a 64 to move into a share of second place at minus-14. He was joined there by Brendan Steele (65). Kyle Thompson (65) and Derek Lamely (66) are one stroke back at 13-under-par 131.
Collins, who shared second place last week, got off to a fast start with birdies on one and two at Highland Springs Country Club. He parred his next two before making birdie on the fifth to get to 11-under.
The 2005 Henrico County Open winner carded five straight pars from the sixth. Collins jumped to 13-under with an eagle at the par-five 11th.
Collins finished like he started. After a birdie on the 15th, he birdied 17 and 18 to lead by two after 36 holes.
"It was another solid day. I tried to have the same game plan and mentality as Thursday," Collins said. "I made a lot of birdies and no bogeys, and that is pretty much what I did, the same thing as yesterday. I'm tickled to death with it and I'm looking forward to the weekend."
Gardiner stumbled to a bogey on the 10th, his first. He came right back with an eagle on 11, then birdies on 15 and 16 to make the turn at minus-nine.
Around the turn, Gardiner connected on another eagle effort at the first. Three birdies the rest of the way gave him a share of second.
Steele ran off three consecutive birdies from the 11th then eagled the 18th to head to the front nine at 12-under. Two more birdies on the front moved him to minus-14.
John M. Kelly carded a 64 to move into a share of sixth at 12-under-par 132. He was joined in sixth place by Roger Tambellini, Justin Bolli and Chris Nallen, all of whom shot 67 Friday.
Robert Damron, who shared the first-round lead with Collins, shot three-under 69 and is tied for 10th at minus-11. He stands alongside Craig Barlow (65), Henrik Bjornstad (68) and Jin Park (65).
The cut line fell at five-under-par 139 with 70 players moving on to the weekend. Former PGA Tour winners Len Mattiace and J.L. Lewis were among those who missed the cut.
