Bristol, CT (My Sportsbook) - Michael Vick is reportedly back in the National Football League, signing with the
Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
According to a report on ESPN.com citing Vick's agent, Joel Segal, the troubled quarterback signed a two-year contract with the club.
Vick has not taken an NFL snap in two years after a spending 19 months in a federal prison after pleading guilty to federal charges stemming from a dogfighting operation conducted at a house he owned in Surry County, Virginia.
The 29-year-old was released from a Kansas prison May 20 and returned to his home in Virginia until his sentence ended on July 20.
Shortly following Vick's guilty plea in August 2007, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell imposed an indefinite suspension, which was lifted conditionally in late July.
The former Falcons signal-caller was permitted to sign with a team and participate in preseason games and all other team activities, and will be considered for full reinstatement and to play in regular-season games by Week 6 (October 18-19) based on the progress he makes in his transition plan.
Vick, who is on probation for the next three years, was the face of the Falcons franchise after his selection as the top overall draft choice in 2001, and was once the NFL's highest-paid player. He was a three-time Pro Bowl pick and twice led the Falcons to the playoffs, including a trip to the NFC title game after the 2004 season, eventually losing to the Eagles.
After Vick was released from prison, Atlanta terminated his contract.
Kevin Kolb, Philadelphia's second-round pick in the 2007 draft, is currently slated as the Donovan McNabb's backup quarterback. The Houston product, however, suffered a sprained left MCL in practice last week.
The Eagles and Falcons meet in Week 13 on December 6 in Atlanta.
