San Francisco, CA (My Sportsbook) - Robbie Rogers had a goal and an assist, Wil Hesmer made three saves for his third shutout of the year and the Columbus Crew beat the San Jose Earthquakes, 3-0, on Saturday at Candlestick Park. Alejandro Moreno and Adam Moffat also scored Columbus, which won its fourth in a row and extended its unbeaten streak to seven to pass the Houston Dynamo for the best record in MLS. Columbus (9-3-9) leads the Chicago Fire by four points in the East and grabbed a one-point lead over struggling Houston for the best overall record. Chicago visits Houston on Sunday. San Jose (4-11-5) failed to build on last week's 4-0 win over Seattle Sounders FC - its only win in its last six matches. After a scoreless first half, Columbus coach Robert Warzycha made two changes in the first 10 minutes of the second that paid off. Moreno and Emmanuel Ekpo entered in the 60th and 63rd, respectively, and quickly combined with Rogers on the first goal. Ekpo started the goal-scoring play with a cross from the right side to the far post to Rogers, who headed back across the box to right post. Moreno jumped to meet the ball and headed perfectly into the upper-right corner from six yards. Rogers added an unassisted strike in the 73rd for his first goal of the year, and Moffat - who came on in the 84th - capped the scoring with his first goal of the season in the 86th off an assist from Gino Padula. Columbus will try to extend its win streak on Aug. 15 when it hosts FC Dallas. San Jose hosts the Kansas City Wizards on Aug. 22.
