Wichita, KS (My Sportsbook) - Jhonattan Vegas carded a four-under 67 Friday to take a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Wichita Open.
Vegas, one of three first-round co-leaders, completed 36 holes at 11-under-par 131. The tour rookie is not only looking for his first tour title, he is looking for his first top-10 finish on the Nationwide Tour.
Chad Collins and Jonathan Fricke both posted four-under 67s and are tied for second with Justin Hicks (68) at minus-nine.
The first and second rounds were both completed Friday after a long weather delay Thursday had delayed action.
Vegas played the back nine first on Friday and opened with a dropped shot on the 10th. He bounced back with a birdie on the 11th then dropped in back-to- back birdies from the 14th to move to minus-nine.
After a pair of pars, Vegas birdied the 18th, then also birdied No. 2. He fell back to nine-under with bogeys on the third and fifth.
Vegas closed with birdies on eight and nine to lead by two at the halfway point on the North Course at Crestview Country Club.
"It's playing really hard out there with this wind," Vegas said. "Fortunately I hit a lot of good shots today and kept the ball in control."
Henrik Bjornstad (67), David Branshaw (68) and Stuart Deane (69) are tied for fifth at eight-under-par 134.
Andre Stolz and Joey Lamielle shared the first-round lead with Vegas. Stolz carded a one-over 72 to slide into a tie for 12th at minus-six, while Lamielle posted a two-over 73 to end in a share of 19th at five-under-par 137.
The cut line fell at two-under-par 140 with 60 players advancing to the weekend.
