Columbus, OH (My Sportsbook) - Justin Bolli fired a five-under 66 to take the first-round lead Thursday at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational.
Bolli holds a one-stroke advantage on Henrik Bjornstad, Dave Schultz, Scott Parel, Phil Tataurangi and Steve Wheatcroft, who each shot four-under 67.
Six players are knotted another stroke further back at 68.
Bolli started on the back nine at Ohio State's Scarlet Course and made his first birdie at the 12th. He added a birdie at the 18th to make the turn in 33 shots.
Playing on one of the toughest courses on the Nationwide Tour schedule, Bolli wrapped up his bogey-free round with three more birdies on the front nine, posting another 33 to take the lead.
It was a satisfying turn of events for the 33-year-old, whose last start at this event -- in 2007 -- ended in a disqualification when he signed an incorrect scorecard.
"I was down for a bogey and par on 14 and 15 but I made a par and a bogey," explained Bolli of his only professional disqualification. "We changed it but I didn't look too closely. But then who does?
"I learned my lesson -- check your card closely. The only saving grace, if there is one, is that I didn't shoot 66 or 67, so it wasn't devastating."
Overnight rain turned the Scarlet Course into a shooting gallery Thursday, producing 41 scores under-par. The par-71 layout yielded only 45 combined under-par numbers in the first rounds in 2007 and '08.
Bolli's 66 matched the course record.
"There was no wind out there and the greens were soft, so it was pretty scorable today," said Bolli, who cautioned against believing the course was easy.
"There aren't any easy holes and certainly there are no gimme birdies like there are some weeks out here. It's not like we're hitting six-irons into par- fives or driving any short par-fours."
