Omaha, NE (My Sportsbook) - Rich Barcelo fired a six-under 65 Sunday to come from behind and win the Cox Classic by one stroke.
Barcelo completed the tournament at 20-under-par 264 for his first Nationwide Tour title.
"It means everything to me," said Barcelo, who jumped to seventh on the money list with the $130,500 first-place paycheck. "It's a validation of so many years of hard work. I've been a pro for ten years and there comes a time when you doubt yourself, but this is a good exclamation point on a great week."
Rich Gillis, who played one group behind Barcelo, posted a five-under 66 to take second place at minus-19. Brent Delahoussaye carded a 67 to end alone in third at 18-under-par 266.
Barcelo had two hot runs to take the title. He parred his first five holes before sinking his first birdie effort on the par-five sixth. Barcelo dropped in back-to-back birdie tries from the eighth to make the turn at 17-under.
Around the turn, he parred his first four holes. Barcelo converted a birdie try on the 14th and made it two in a row with a birdie on 15 to grab the lead.
Barcelo moved to 20-under with a birdie on the 17th at Champions Run. He parred the last then watched as Gillis tried to force a playoff.
"I wanted to shoot six-under today, that's all," Barcelo admitted. "I firmly believe you have to let your clubs do the talking and they finally did."
Gillis reeled off eight straight pars to start his round. After birdies on nine and 10, Gillis carded four more pars in a row.
The 41-year-old Gillis, who claimed his first tour win earlier this year, moved to 17-under with a birdie on the 15th. He birdied each of his last two holes to end one back.
J.J. Killeen carded a four-under 67 to end alone in fourth at 17-under-par 267. Michael Sim, the tour's leading money winner who was going for his third win of the year, managed a one-under 70.
Sim shared fifth place at 16-under-par 268 with Matt Every (68) and Jonas Blixt (70). Blake Adams was one shot back at minus-15 after shooting 68 on Sunday.
