Omaha, NE (My Sportsbook) - Nationwide Tour money leader Michael Sim fired a four-under 67 on Saturday to share the third-round lead with Jonas Blixt at the Cox Classic.
Sim moved to 15-under 198 and is one round closer to earning his third win of the season, which would earn the Scottish-born Australian an automatic promotion to the PGA Tour.
He has history on his side.
Three of the eight players in Nationwide Tour history who have claimed three wins in a single season have completed the feat in Omaha. The last was Jason Gore in 2005.
"I thought about winning when I was walking down the 17th hole on Friday. I didn't hit a good shot there and I put it out of my mind," said Sim. "I didn't think about it all today."
Blixt, a 25-year-old Swede seeking his first tour win, had a two-under 69 on Saturday to preserve the share of the lead he held overnight.
Sim and Blixt were trailed by Tom Gillis (67), Brent Delahoussaye (68) and Rich Barcelo (68) at 14-under 199.
Four players were another stroke further back at 200, including J.J. Killeen, who shared the second-round lead with Blixt but shot a 71 on Saturday.
Sim's bogey-free third round included two birdies and an eagle on the par-five 10th hole at Champions Run.
"I hit good shots when I needed to hit good shots. I made the putts I needed to make," said Sim, 24, who leads Kevin Johnson by nearly $135,000 for the top spot on the money list.
Blixt made three bogeys on his round, but also collected an eagle -- he drove the green at the par-four fourth -- and three birdies to protect his share of the lead.
"A lot has gone my way this week," said Blixt. "I didn't really expect to be in this situation. You always want to be, but it doesn't always work that way. I've been good in bouncing back."
