Omaha, NE (My Sportsbook) - J.J. Killeen carded a five-under 66 Friday to move into a share of the lead after two rounds of the Cox Classic.
Killeen shares the lead with Sweden's Jonas Blixt, who posted a six-under 65 in round two. They completed 36 holes at 13-under-par 129.
Matthew Every shot three-under 68 Friday, but dropped from second to third place at minus-12.
Rich Barcelo (62), leading money winner Michael Sim (65), Brian Smock (67), Brent Delahoussaye (67) and Tadd Fujikawa (67) are tied for fourth place at 11-under-par 131.
Killeen played the back nine first on Friday. He collected three birdies in a five-hole stretch from the 13th. Around the turn, he faltered to bogeys on one and two to slip to minus-nine.
"I wouldn't say I missed a shot on those two holes," Killeen said of the first and second. "I wasn't disappointed because I played them exactly the way I was supposed to. If I was all over the place and making bogeys it would be a different thing, but it felt exactly like it did when I was making birdies."
The 27-year-old dropped in back-to-back birdies from the fourth to move back to 11-under. Killeen closed with birdies on the seventh and ninth to share the halfway lead at Champions Run.
"I just feel really confident," Killeen stated. "If you're flagging it and taking advantage of the par-fives and the short par-fours, you can make a lot of birdies."
Blixt also started on the back nine. After a birdie on 10, he tripped to a bogey on No. 12. Blixt bounced right back with a birdie on 13.
The Swede ran off three straight birdies around the turn from the 17th. He moved within one of the lead with a birdie on the par-four fourth. Blixt birdied his last, the ninth, to share the lead with Killeen.
"If you're going to be up there in a tournament, you're going to have bad stretches. You have to get out of the bad stretches in a good way," said Blixt of a good scrambling par he made on No. 14. "It means you either miss the cut or you are at the top of the leaderboard. I could have been five- or six-over on that stretch and I was one-under."
First-round leader Garth Mulroy managed an even-par 71 to slip into a tie for ninth at 10-under-par 132. He was joined there by Todd Demsey (64), Tom Gillis (67), Geoffrey Sisk (63) and Blake Adams (65).
The cut line fell at five-under-par 137 with 67 players moving on to the weekend. Once again, there will be no repeat winner as 2008 champion Ryan Hietala stumbled to a one-over 72 to miss the cut by a single stroke.
Also missing the cut were Kevin Johnson, Roger Tambellini, Alex Prugh and Cameron Percy. Those four rank second, third, fifth and sixth on the Nationwide Tour money list.
