(My Sportsbook) - REPORT DATES: July 26th (Rookies), July 31st (Veterans) SITE: Houston Texans Practice Facility, Houston, TX CAMP OBJECTIVES: Clearly, Gary Kubiak feels that the fortunes of his 2009 Texans, and the fate of his career as a head coach, will rely on the play of this year's defense. Kubiak and GM Rick Smith brought in six players, all within the front seven, that could play significant time immediately if things go according to plan during camp: tackle Shaun Cody (ex-Lions), ends Antonio Smith (ex-Cardinals) and Connor Barwin (2nd Round, Cincinnati), and linebackers Brian Cushing (1st Round, USC), Buster Davis (ex-Colts), and Cato June (ex-Buccaneers). Also on the minds of Kubiak and new defensive coordinator Frank Bush will be the evolution of a weak-on-paper secondary, especially considering franchised corner Dunta Robinson could be a holdout. Offensively, the Texans look as set as they have in some time, though given Matt Schaub's injury history and the trade of trusty backup Sage Rosenfels to Minnesota, fans will want to monitor the progress of new No. 2 Dan Orlovsky. PRESEASON SCHEDULE: Aug 15 - at Kansas City, 8:00 PM Aug 22 - vs. New Orleans, 8:00 PM Aug 31 - vs. Minnesota, 8:00 PM Sep 4 - at Tampa Bay, 7:00 PM
