REPORT DATE: July 24th (Rookies), July 31st (Veterans)

SITE: Cleveland Browns Training Facility, Berea, OH

CAMP OBJECTIVES: The Browns will enter camp looking like one of the biggest messes the league has to offer in 2009, and Eric Mangini's work with the team during August will determine whether that reputation continues into the regular season. The obvious position to watch is quarterback, where Brady Quinn is perceived to have an edge over Derek Anderson for the starting job but won't simply be handed the reins. Whoever plays QB will have to find some targets from a receiver/tight end group which consists of Braylon Edwards and very little else of note. Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll will also need to find a backup running back option to support the severely declining Jamal Lewis. Defense is supposed to be Mangini's specialty, and he has some serious work to do in this area as well. The Browns were 28th in the league against the run last year and didn't rush the passer well, so most of Mangini's energy should be devoted to shoring up the front seven. The secondary looks fairly weak as well, and Mangini and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan must determine whether potential starters like safety Abram Elam and cornerback Brandon McDonald can make the grade.
