East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - Well Said, winner of the North America Cup, ran away from the competition to win Saturday's $1 million Meadowlands Pace at The Meadowlands. Driven by Ron Pierce, the colt paced the mile in 1:47 3/5.
Sent off as the 2-5 favorite in the 10-horse field, Well Said took the lead midway up the backstretch and never allowed any of the other pacers to get close. The three-year-old pacer hit the wire six-lengths ahead of second- place finisher Vintage Master with If I Can Dream finishing third and Chasin Racin in fourth.
Rounding out the order of finish was Schoolkids, Ideal Danny, Arctic Warrior, Hypnotic Blue Chip, Art Colony and Pair A Dice. Hypnotic Blue Chip and Art Colony were both 6-1 as co-second choices.
Well Said, trained by Steve Elliott for owners Jeff Snyder of New York and Lothlorien of Ontario, earned $500,000 with the Meadowlands Pace victory to bring his 2009 earnings to $1,212,120. The colt has won nine of 18 career starts for $1,798,808. This year he has won five of six races.
The win makes Well Said the eighth horse to win both the North America Cup and Meadowlands Pace. The others were Rocknroll Hanover (2005), Gallo Blue Chip (2000), The Panderosa (1999), David's Pass (1995), Cam's Card Shark (1994), Presidential Ball (1993), and Precious Bunny (1991).
Co-owner Jeff Snyder also owned Rocknroll Hanover and Cam's Card Shark.
Well Said returned $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10. Vintage Master paid $9.40 and $7.20, and If I Can Dream paid $9.00 to show.
