Lexington, KY (My Sportsbook) - Rachel Alexandra, the top rated thoroughbred in the nation, will make her next start in the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on Sunday, August 2. The 1 1/8 mile Haskell will be her second race versus male three-year-olds. In the Preakness Stakes on May 16 she defeated Kentucky Derby champ Mine That Bird by one-length. "Rachel Alexandra is progressing well after her stakes record victory in the Mother Goose," said majority owner Jess Jackson. "She is in top condition. If this preparation continues, our target is to race in the Haskell Invitational in about three weeks. We are all looking forward to seeing this great athlete perform again against both colts and fillies." In her last start, Rachel Alexandra won the $300,000 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont Park. She set a stakes record for the 1 1/8 miles in 1:46.33. Owned by Jackson and Harold McCormick, the Preakness Stakes winner defeated the two others starters in the Mother Goose by 19 1/4-lengths, nearly equaling her 20 1/4-length margin in the Kentucky Oaks. Rachel Alexandra, trained by Steve Asmussen, has won seven straight starts and has nine victories in 12 career races for $1,798,354. She sits atop the latest NTRA Thoroughbred Poll. The filly received 10 first- place votes and 176 points, 10 more points than number-two Zenyatta.
