East Rutherford, NJ (My Sportsbook) - Well Said, winner of the North America Cup, has been installed as the 6-5 morning-line favorite for Saturday's $1 million Meadowlands Pace at The Meadowlands.
Driven by Ron Pierce, Well Said won his elimination race on Saturday by 1 3/4- lengths over Art Colony. The three-year-old paced the mile in 1:49 2/5.
Pair A Dice, sixth, was placed fifth due to inteference and advanced to the Meadowlands Pace final along with Schoolkids and Vintage Master. Drop Red finished third, but was disqualified and placed sixth for interfering with Pair A Dice while on a brief break in stride at the half-mile mark.
"I haven't seen anybody out there that can beat him," said Pierce, who won the 2008 Meadowlands Pace with Art Official. "I'll be surprised if he gets beat, but Somebeachsomewhere got beat and a lot of other horses. It's a horse race, so anything can happen. I think by far, I have the best colt. If he gets beat, it won't be because he didn't have a good chance."
Well Said is trained by Steve Elliott for owners Jeff Snyder of New York and Lothlorien of Ontario. The colt has won eight of 17 career starts for nearly $1.3 million.
In Saturday's Meadowlands Pace final Well Said will start from post three in the ten horse field. Hypnotic Blue Chip, winner of the second elimination, has drawn post four and is the 4-1 second choice.
Hypnotic Blue Chip posted a 1 1/4-length win over Chasin Racin and equalled Well Said's time for the mile at a career best, 1:49 2/5.
"He's a real nice colt," said driver Tim Tetrick, "and he finishes well, that's the good thing about him."
Ideal Danny held on for third followed by If I Can Dream and Arctic Warrior to qualify for the final.
Hypnotic Blue Chip, trained by co-owner Mark Harder, improved his record to eight wins in 15 starts this season. Harder won the 2004 Meadowlands Pace with Holborn Hanover.
