Clarksburg, ON (My Sportsbook) - Roger Tambellini posted a two-under 69 on Sunday and it was enough for his third Nationwide Tour title at the Wayne Gretzky Classic.
Tambellini finished at 20-under 265 and won by four strokes over Blake Adams at The Georgian Bay Club. He won the Boise Open in 2003 and the 2005 Price Cutter Charity Championship.
Tambellini's $144,018 first-place check moves him to third on the Nationwide Tour money list. That all but guarantees a spot in the year-end top 25 and a return to the PGA Tour in 2010.
"I didn't really think about it," admitted Tambellini, who shared second the last time the Nationwide Tour played two weeks ago. "That's wonderful news."
Adams also shot a 69 to take second at minus-16. Craig Barlow carded a five- under 66 and came in third by himself at 15-under 270.
D.J. Brigman (65), Chris Anderson (69) and Garth Mulroy (73) shared fourth place at minus-14.
Tambellini started beautifully on Sunday. He birdied the first, then drained a 15-footer at the fourth and found himself at 20-under and five strokes ahead of the field.
Trouble loomed. Tambellini bogeyed the fifth and double-bogeyed the sixth. After Mulroy eagled the seventh and birdied the eighth, the pair was tied atop the leaderboard.
Tambellini briefly reclaimed the lead with a birdie at nine, but lost it one hole later with a bogey at 10. He knocked his approach to tap-in range at the 11th and made birdie to take back first.
Tambellini stayed there over the back nine.
He birdied the par-five 13th, then birdied No. 15. Tambellini parred his remaining holes and when his closest pursuers struggled on the way in, he left with a four-shot win.
"I felt lost for a few holes there," acknowledged Tambellini. "Five I made bogey and doubled the next and everything kind of went away. I was lucky to get it back a few holes later."
Craig Bowden (69) and David Branshaw (72) tied for seventh at 13-under 272.
Jon Mills (68), Josh Broadaway (70) and Dustin Risdon (70) shared ninth at minus-12.
