Clarksburg, ON (My Sportsbook) - Roger Tambellini posted a five-under 66 on Saturday to stay atop the leaderboard after the third round of the Wayne Gretzky Classic.
Tambellini, the overnight leader, finished 54 holes at 18-under 196 and is two shots clear at The Georgian Bay Club.
Garth Mulroy carded a six-under 65 and is alone in second at minus-16. Blake Adams (64) and David Branshaw (67) are knotted in third place at 14-under-par 200.
Tambellini broke into red figures with a birdie at the second hole. His next birdie came at No. 8, then he knocked his approach to tap-in range for an easy birdie at the ninth.
Tambellini tripped to a bogey at the par-four 11th, but a run over his final six holes kept him in front.
At the par-five 13th, Tambellini drained a 15-footer for birdie. He made it two in a row after he rolled in a long birdie putt at the 14th, but he put no further distance between himself and Mulroy with three straight pars.
Tambellini played the final hole with a one-shot lead. He hit his third to six feet at the par-five last and cashed in on the birdie effort to extend his margin to two.
"It seemed more exhausting today. It was so windy, probably a good day to fly a kite but a bit tougher for golf," joked Tambellini. "But it was a good solid round. I made a lot of four and five-footers for par and was able to hang in there."
If Tambellini can hold on Sunday, he will collect his third Nationwide Tour victory. He captured the 2003 Boise Open and two years later he won the Price Cutter Charity Championship.
Chris Anderson carded a four-under 67 and is fifth at minus-12.
Derek Lamely (66), Dustin Risdon (66), Craig Bowden (67), Josh Broadaway (67) and Brian Stuard (67) are tied for sixth place at 11-under-par 203.
