Nurburg, Germany (My Sportsbook) - Mark Webber from Red Bull Racing held off Brawn GP drivers Rubens Barrichello and Jenson Button as well as teammate Sebastian Vettel in the closing seconds of Saturday's qualifying to take the pole position for the German Grand Prix.
Webber, 32, lapped the 3.2-mile, 16 turn Nurburgring in one minute, 32.230 seconds for his first Formula One pole in his 130th grand prix start. The Australian also overcame changeable weather conditions as rain fell during the second 15-minute qualifying session but cleared up in time for the final 10- minute stint.
"It's a very special day for me to get the pole," Webber said. "I've been close a few times in the past."
Three weeks ago, Webber claimed he was held up by Kimi Raikkonen during the third qualifying session, which prevented him from winning the pole for the British Grand Prix.
Barrichello's lap time of 1:32.357 gave the Brazilian the second starting position.
"It's nice when you have the right tire for the right moment," Barrichello said. "We all went on slicks, then we all came back because we saw (Felipe) Massa going out into turn 12 and I think everybody came back to the pits for intermediates, and I was on my time lap when I decided that was not the right tire."
Barrichello's teammate and current world championship point leader Button will start third. Button has won six of the first eight grand prix this year.
"That session was just madness in Q2 (second session)," Button said. "We were struggling with tire warp, but when you chuck a bit of water in there, it's quite difficult."
Vettel, who won the British GP, will line up fourth, followed by the McLaren cars of Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen.
Adrian Sutil surprisingly qualified seventh, finishing ahead of Ferrari's Massa and Raikkonen. Nelson Piquet from Renault completed the top-10.
