Blaine, MN (My Sportsbook) - Nick Price and Andy Bean both fired rounds of seven-under-par 65 on Friday to take the first-round lead at the 3M Championship.
Gene Jones is alone in third place at six-under 66 at the TPC Twin Cities.
Champions Tour money leader Bernhard Langer is knotted in fourth place with Ronnie Black, Dan Forsman and Scott Hoch at five-under-par 67.
Price birdied his first hole Friday, then parred his next eighth holes in a row.
The Hall of Famer birdied the 10th to reach two-under, then rattled off four consecutive birdies from the par-five 12th. That got him to six-under par, but it was a birdie at the par-five closing hole that gave him a piece of the lead.
"I hit a lot of good shots on front nine, but couldn't make any birdies," acknowledged Price. "As soon as I broke the ice with the birdie at No. 10, I got a little more aggressive and played really well."
Price finally broke into the winner's circle on the Champions Tour earlier this year. He captured the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am, then later lost a playoff at the Principal Charity Classic and he's seventh on the tour's money list.
Bean reached the top of the leaderboard in a different manner than Price.
He parred the first hole, but recorded five birdies in a six-hole span from No. 2. Bean parred the next five around the turn, then dropped a shot at the par-three 13th.
Bean ran home a pair of seven-footers for birdie at 15 and 16. His two-putt birdie from almost 75 feet at the closing hole gave Bean his share of first place.
"I played a very solid round today," said Bean, who held the opening-round lead in 2006, but tied for 16th place. "I've been putting really well. There will be a lot of birdies out there."
Ben Crenshaw shared the lead until a disastrous final hole. He triple-bogeyed the par-five 18th and finished with a four-under 68. Crenshaw is tied for eighth place with Fulton Allem, Gary Hallberg and Mike Goodes.
Defending champion R.W. Eaks managed a two-under 70 and is tied for 16th place.
