Washington, D.C. (My Sportsbook) - United States striker Freddy Adu will not play for the United States in the remainder of the Gold Cup, coach Bob Bradley announced Wednesday night. Adu started the first two games of the CONCACAF tournament, notching a goal in a 4-0 win over Grenada on Saturday. The U.S. beat Honduras 2-0 on Wednesday. "This will be the last game that Freddy will be here for the Gold Cup. That was part of the arrangement from the start," Bradley said. Adu will return to his club team, Benfica in Portugal, to start preseason. He joined Benfica in 2007, and was loaned to France's Monaco last season. He only played sparingly, managing less than 200 minutes. "Obviously, it's important to get preseason in with your team. It gives you the best chance of being a part of the team for this season," Adu said. "The challenge for him," Bradley added, "is to get back to Benfica and start to earn playing time." The U.S. wraps up the group stage of the Gold Cup on Saturday against Haiti.
