Glasgow, Scotland (My Sportsbook) - Australian Richard Green fired a seven- under 64 Thursday to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Scottish Open.

Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, a three-time runner-up this season, shares second place at minus-six with Paul McGinley, Graeme Storm and Martin Laird.

Adam Scott carded a five-under 66 and is alone in sixth place at Loch Lomond Golf Club.

Defending champion Graeme McDowell shares 52nd place at one-under 70.

Green started on the back nine Thursday and tripped to a bogey on No. 12. He came right back with a 35-foot eagle putt on the par-five 13th.

The Australian followed the eagle with birdies on the 14th and 15th to quickly move to minus-three. After three straight pars to end his opening nine, Green rolled in a birdie effort on the first.

Green moved to five-under with a birdie on the par-four fourth and made it two straight with a birdie on No. 5. Green converted his third straight birdie on the sixth to grab the lead at seven-under. He parred his final three holes to lead for the sixth time after one round on the European Tour.

"I haven't handled the pressure quite as well as I would have liked to," admitted Green, whose last tour win came at the 2007 BA-CA Golf Open. "But the more I put myself there the more and more I feel like I can do it."

This good score came after a bad round in his pro-am. Green thought he had lost his swing.

"It was a bit of a surprise. I'd been playing well for three weeks and all of a sudden I couldn't find it," Green stated. "But I went on the range for probably an hour and an half and got things back on plane."

Gonzalo-Fernandez poured in four straight birdies from the 12th, his third. That run ended with bogeys on 16 and 17. Around the turn, the Spaniard birdied three of four holes from the first. He got to six-under with a birdie on the seventh.

McGinley birdied two of his first four holes from the 10th. He parred six in a row around the turn then birdied the second. The Irishman jumped to minus-five with an eagle on the third. After dropping a shot on No. 5, McGinley birdied eight and nine to share second.

Storm, in the first group out in the morning wave, collected seven birdies and a single bogey to be the first one in the clubhouse at six-under.

Laird posted a bogey-free round with six birdies to share second.

American Nick Watney and Soren Kjeldsen opened with four-under 67s. They share seventh place with Gregory Havret, Raphael Jacquelin, David Drysdale, Kenneth Ferrie, Soren Hansen, Jarmo Sandelin, Francesco Molinari and Ross McGowan.
