Inglewood, CA (My Sportsbook) - Reigning champ Mast Track returns to defend his title in Saturday's $700,000 Hollywood Gold Cup at Hollywood Park. The 1 1/4 mile test on the track's all-weather surface has attracted a field of 13 older thoroughbreds.

Mast Track, owned and trained by Bobby Frankel, has drawn post three and will be ridden by David Flores, The five-year-old won his first and only graded stakes with the Hollywood Gold Cup and earned $450,000. However, he has not won a race since with a best finish of third in the Pacific Classic. Mast Track has five wins in 15 career starts for $760,022.

Trainer Doug O'Neill will send out Informed who is coming off a victory in the Californian four weeks ago at Hollywood Park. The five-year-old will be ridden by Tyler Baze, who was aboard Mast Track in 2008. The pair will break from post 12.

O'Neill has already won the Gold Cup four times since 2002, with Sky Jack in 2002 and Lava Man from 2005-2007.

"It would be great if we could do it again," said O'Neill.

Informed has career earnings of $356,339 with five wins in 20 starts. Baze was aboard for the Californian victory at 1 1/8 miles and O'Neill doesn't feel the extra furlong will be a problem.

"It doesn't seem like the extra distance will bother him," said O'Neill. "The biggest thing is getting a good trip, and he got a real good ride last time from Tyler."

Californian runner-up Rail Trip is out to snap a two race streak in which he has repeat second place finishes. The four-year-old gelding will start from post eight with Jose Valdivia, Jr. riding.

Owned by Jay Em Ess Stable, Rail Trip was second to Ball Four in the track's Mervyn Leroy Handicap prior to the Californian. In April he led the entire way in winning the Santana Mile at Santa Anita. Ron Ellis trains the gelding who has won five of seven career starts for $247,790.
